Advice to 14 year old girls.

1.) Your Mama is always right.  She really does know everything, and the sooner you learn that the better.  Just talk to her she's a lot smarter than you think.

2.) True friends don't pressure you.  Even at age 21 I find it hard to find people who like you for the way you are. Don't worry or give up, there are a few good ones out there.

3.) Look for a positive role model, not just a pretty face.  Lots of girls idolize the pretty celebrities but pretty doesn't get you an A on your term papers.  Find a hero who has a positive life story and is inspirational.

4.) Boys are nothing but trouble.  Daddy is always right too.  Boys stink and are complete idiots and you know whats worse, they never grow up.

5.) Spend time alone.  Alone in your room is where you will probably figure out the most important thing in your life, yourself!

6.) Keep all your old diaries.  One day you will look back and laugh!

7.) Love how you look.  You might have frizzy hair and buck teeth now, but trust me honey you will grow into your looks.  Plus all those photos in magazines are airbrushed anyway.

8.) Don't start wearing makeup OR shaving your legs.  From the moment you start, its a daily battle.  Just hold out as long as you can!

9.) Be kind to everyone. Yes, I said everyone.  Being a genuine sweet person will take you places.

10.) Spend time with your family.  These are the people who will always love you.  Never take for granted the time you have to spend with them.

11.) Take advice.  Even if it is from your crazy grandma, the point of this is she will enjoy that you are listening.  Sometimes other people have just the solution you need.

12.) Respect yourself.  This can be directed to any aspect of your life.

13.) Read your Bible.  From now until forever, all the solutions to your problems can be solved will the help of a little prayer and the Bible.

14.) And last but not least, don't try to grow up too fast.  I know you think being older is really cool, but it just means more responsibility.  Time flies by so fast and pretty soon you will be 21 and going to your friends weddings, or hosting baby showers, but not now.  Enjoy sleeping late and eating whatever you want, and sleepovers, and being young.  Because the most carefree times make the best memories.

12 things that will probably never happen aka. ridiculous goals.

I'm obviously wide awake at 12:30 so what better way to make time fly than blog? So in order to kill my insomnia, I'm gonna share with you my 12 completely random life goals.  :) Some are more realistic than others, but here it goes!

1) Be a complete diva during my wedding planning/wedding day. I want to make Bridezillas look like a joke.

2) Have only one name. You know like Cher, Madonna, Prince,Seal, Fabio... Your not legit until you ditch your last name.

3) Learn to play guitar and piano.

4) Conquer monkey bars.  I have the upper body strength of a kitten and I was always too chubby in elementary school.

5) Make a billion dollars. I would love to help out people who truly need money!

6) Be the voice of a Disney Princess.

7) Ride in the Goodyear Blimp.

8) Direct a music video. There is nothing worse than loving a song that has an idiotic video.

9) Become fluent in Spanish.

10) Be a surrogate mother. I would love to help someone who couldn't have a child of their own.

11) Write a book, cookbook, t.v. show, and a song.

12) Have complete financial freedom.  I have always had to watch my spending, but it would be great to go into any store and be able to buy anything I wanted and not think twice about it. Also, I would love to be able to support my entire family. I just need to think of a get rich scheme first :/

This one is for Ya Ya.

You know that awkward moment when your in public and one of your family members just blurts out whatever is on their mind? Take that and multiply it by 365 days and that's what you get when you hang out with my Ya Ya.  My Ya Ya is what most people would normally call their grandma, me-me, maw-maw, gran, etc. Key word in the previous sentence, normal.  My Ya Ya is hands down one of a kind.  She is my grandma on my mamas side and they are as different as night and day.  My mama has always been a kindhearted, level headed, smart woman.  Not saying my Ya Ya isn't smart, I'm just saying she isn't known for making the best decisions.

Like the classic time in the mall with my sister Delana and her baby Cooper.  Ya Ya was bound and determined that we were going shopping so I drove her to the mall so she could have a day out and meet up with Cooper and Delana.  The day was going fairly good, I mean we did have those random conversations with some retail employees where she introduced herself and told everyone in the store that I was going to Ole Miss and that Delana was a marketing teacher, but so far nothing over the edge (after 21 years of public outings you get used to the awkward introductions). Until we had lunch during at the food court.  My nephew Cooper will be 2 this September so he is at a very curious stage right now. He was getting fussy so Ya Ya tired to occupy him. Not a good idea. Toys weren't working, so I guess she thought it would be a good idea to say something to distract him. So, she says "Cooper. Look it's Little Bill" and points to a little black boy and his mom. (You know Little Bill is the cute little black boy from Nick Jr.) Normally this would be ok except the fact that "Little Bill" and his mom were at the table 1 ft from us, and when Ya Ya talks, she yells. Needless to say, we got a few racist looks and "Little Bill" and his mom left.

Cooking is definitely not her thing.  She puts sugar in Thanksgiving dressing, Coke in spaghetti, Sprite in green beans, and I'm too afraid to ask her about any other recipes.  The really sad thing is my grandpa is a diabetic. Sometimes i wonder if she doesn't get her life confused with the daily episode of All My Children and she is trying to kill grandpa off. I will never know.

Or the one time when a cop pulled her over for speeding and she said. "Officer, I was not speeding, my wheels were just moving faster than my truck". Bless her heart.

Ya Ya has kept my two older sisters children before they have started school so she has her hands full during the school year but she absolutely loves it.  One time when my niece Chaney was a baby, Ya Ya was giving her a bath.  I walked in to ask Ya Ya a question and in the bath water sat little baby Chaney covered in bubbles with her socks still on.  Priceless.

Let's just say this lady can shop.  You know David's Bridal always has the $99 dress sale? Well Ya Ya took it upon herself to go buy 6 dresses from sizes 2-16. When asked her reasoning behind this purchase she responded, "One for each of my granddaughters". Let me see, Audrey, Delana, Me, Chancey, and Shelby, nope that's definitely 5.  And its actually 3 if you take into consideration that the time these dresses were purchased Audrey and Delana were already married working on children.  Addiction? No..Problem? Yes.

She would have you on the edge of your seat in laughter and she is not a comedian, its just her natural self.  She stays busy and is not afraid of hard work that is one thing about her.  Ya Ya enjoys working in her flower beds, planting a garden, picking vegetables, or just being outside. She also loves spoiling her 7 grandchildren and her 3 great grandchildren.  Ya Ya is a very sweet grandma and I wouldn't trade her for the world, I just wish the whole world had a chance to meet her.

So I hope by reading this you have in visioned that one crazy family member in your head and your smiling thinking of all the stories you have gained from this person.  There is one in every family. Don't be embarrassed, its actually very funny. Always remember that no matter what, your family will be there for you over anyone else you know. Never put them on the back burner no matter how crazy you think they are. Oh, and if you can't think of that one person who is the talk of the family reunions or the purpose behind every funny family story, you probably are that person. :)

Wild Goose Chase.

Hey dolls! My name is Katie Davenport and I'm from possibly the smallest town in Mississippi. I love being around my family(which you will figure out later where most of my insanely funny stories come from).  I also have a few close friends who I've met along my 21 years who have been the sole reason for crazy bad decisions, but hey, don't we all?

This fall I will be moving to Oxford, MS to attend Ole Miss. I'm pretty excited about this step in my education since I have been at a community college for the past few years.  I plan on majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications and its crazy to think how excited I am to go to school. When I was in high school I would dread waking up to learn things that I thought would be useless. Its shocking to think how much a person can change in only a matter of years.  Ah, the beauty of growing up.

One quality about myself that I hope never changes is my ability to try.  I'm queen of DIY, trying without reading the directions, and taking a shot at something just to see if I can.  I mean you never know until you try right? So far here is a list of things I have tried to do that I feel I was somewhat successful:

Cake decorating:  So, my very best friend Kalie Taylor turned 21 this past January and that meant a birthday party, which in turn meant a birthday cake.  I think the reasoning behind this venture could be blamed on TLC's Cake Boss.  He really makes it look super easy.  However after an attempt, I have to say looks can be deceiving.  The cake turned out great, she loved it and it totally fit her personality.  It was something I could do again with a bit more practice, but a fun experience.

Painting: It seems like birthdays get me involved in new hobbies.  My friend Lesli Burnham had a birthday gathering at an art venue where an artist showed you step by step how to paint a canvas.  So, needless to say after that night I hit up Hobby Lobby, bought a couple dozen canvases, and did some damage of my own.  This worked out well and I happen to have sold a few.

Sewing: Oh jeeze, this goes back to my high school days of when I wanted to be a fashion designer and live in New York and own a black poodle named Elizabeth Taylor.  For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to start making my own purses, out of blue jean material nonetheless.  My friend Allison Gorman and I spent days during the summer sketching out purse designs and used hot glue to make our creations until my sweet mama bought me a sewing machine for Christmas.  I still sew from time to time, so it comes in handy. Sorry I don't have a ridiculous picture of this!

My point to all of this?  Why not try it all? Everyone possesses the ability to try! Yeah you may look back on it like me and think, really this was not my best idea. Or, it could eventually turn into something great! The moral of this story is the beauty is in the attempt.  I think I actually got that from a movie quote, not sure, but anyway try! You can do it I promise.  Oh and the the second part of the story is that I tend to get random hobbies that die down after a short amount of time ha ha but that's just me!

Until next time! Stay feisty! :)
