This fall I will be moving to Oxford, MS to attend Ole Miss. I'm pretty excited about this step in my education since I have been at a community college for the past few years. I plan on majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications and its crazy to think how excited I am to go to school. When I was in high school I would dread waking up to learn things that I thought would be useless. Its shocking to think how much a person can change in only a matter of years. Ah, the beauty of growing up.
One quality about myself that I hope never changes is my ability to try. I'm queen of DIY, trying without reading the directions, and taking a shot at something just to see if I can. I mean you never know until you try right? So far here is a list of things I have tried to do that I feel I was somewhat successful:
Cake decorating: So, my very best friend Kalie Taylor turned 21 this past January and that meant a birthday party, which in turn meant a birthday cake. I think the reasoning behind this venture could be blamed on TLC's Cake Boss. He really makes it look super easy. However after an attempt, I have to say looks can be deceiving. The cake turned out great, she loved it and it totally fit her personality. It was something I could do again with a bit more practice, but a fun experience.
Painting: It seems like birthdays get me involved in new hobbies. My friend Lesli Burnham had a birthday gathering at an art venue where an artist showed you step by step how to paint a canvas. So, needless to say after that night I hit up Hobby Lobby, bought a couple dozen canvases, and did some damage of my own. This worked out well and I happen to have sold a few.
Sewing: Oh jeeze, this goes back to my high school days of when I wanted to be a fashion designer and live in New York and own a black poodle named Elizabeth Taylor. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to start making my own purses, out of blue jean material nonetheless. My friend Allison Gorman and I spent days during the summer sketching out purse designs and used hot glue to make our creations until my sweet mama bought me a sewing machine for Christmas. I still sew from time to time, so it comes in handy. Sorry I don't have a ridiculous picture of this!
My point to all of this? Why not try it all? Everyone possesses the ability to try! Yeah you may look back on it like me and think, really this was not my best idea. Or, it could eventually turn into something great! The moral of this story is the beauty is in the attempt. I think I actually got that from a movie quote, not sure, but anyway try! You can do it I promise. Oh and the the second part of the story is that I tend to get random hobbies that die down after a short amount of time ha ha but that's just me!
Until next time! Stay feisty! :)
